Hello, my name is Carlos Navas. I have developed some engineering applications that I wanted to access on line. You can e-mail me or find me in LinkedIn.

You can also download my Free TSC Engineering app. I am sorry that my App is no longer available for the iPhone.

One of the main drivers for this site is that I was a member of the Engineering Analyses Team in the Technical Support Center (TSC) at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant.

In case of an emergency, my teammates and I were asked to perform complex calculations in a timely manner in order to protect the health and safety of the public.

Our guidelines for these calculations are based on NUREG/CR-4041 (System Analysis Handbook).

NUREG/CR-4041 was written by Idaho National Engineering Laboratory for the NRC in December 1984. As you already know, there were no Smart phones or Tablets in 1984.

With the technology available today, it would make sense to convert the handbook to an electronic format.

I originally converted the handbook to software installed on desktops. Revisions to the software were cumbersome. Putting it on the Web was the clear choice.

None of the software has been validated. So, if you decide to use it, it is at your own risk.

I plan to use it because it beats using the 1984 handbook. Let me share some of the inners of the software,

I took the liberty to incorporate the Henry-Fauske Critical Flow tables for subcooled liquid found in RELAP4 into the software.

Therefore, it is not necessary to look at the Critical Mass Fluxes in the handbook.

I also took the liberty of modifying the critical flow and inertial flow equations for the air vapor mixture out of the containment.

The handbook equations are based on isentropic flow through a nozzle. Although this is conservative when estimating mass release rates, it underestimates the termination of the release.

Conventional equations for critical and inertial flow as found in Crane Technical paper 410 are used.

In the process of creating this site, it was only logical to incorporate other software that I have either developed or have come accross, such as the FORTRAN Steam Tables developed by my old reactor engineering friend Scott Patterson.

These tables have been converted to PHP since I needed them in just about every Tab shown above.
